About Us
Over 65 years ago on March 5, 1946 a group of interested citizens of Rocky Mountain House held meetings to form a retail organization known as Rocky Mountain House Co-op Ltd. At this point this new retail co-operative was only a dream in the minds of these forward thinking individuals. This new business had zero assets and the courageous people realized it would be a long tough road to the fulfillment of the dream.
It was a difficult struggle. Shares were sold for $10.00 each and in due course enough money was raised to purchase land and to build a store on 50th Avenue. The store was completed on October 31, 1947.
From this humble beginning in 1946 Rocky Mountain House Co-op has flourished into a very successful retail business worth over $50 million in annual sales and employing more than 160 people. During the past 60 years Rocky Co-op has generated a total of $670 million in sales with accumulated earnings of over $38 million.
